How we work

Find it. Explain it. Fix it right.

Our listing names three values: integrity, fairness and customer service. Here is what that looks like on a job.

  1. 01

    We find the cause

Reviewers keep saying the same thing: problems other people chased for years got traced and fixed. Troubleshooting is the heart of the trade, and we take the time to do it right.

  2. 02

    We explain it

You’ll know what was wrong and what we did about it. Customers mention being shown the fix, not just billed for it.

  3. 03

    We price it fairly

Integrity, fairness and customer service are the values on our listing. Estimates are free, and you get the price before the work.

  4. 04

    We know old houses

Plaster walls, fuse boxes, knob-and-tube and a century of add-ons: the normal stock of Bennington County homes, and normal work for us.

In customers’ words

“A stellar electrician.”

Reviews on Yelp, Thumbtack and Angi keep naming the same person: Dominic, the electrician customers meet at the door.

“Dominic came to our home on an emergency basis and completely resolved the issue. We are very happy with his service and extensive knowledge/experience.”

Marc K.Yelp · February 2026

“Dominic Marchegiani is a stellar electrician. He was timely, professional and affordable. We were able to troubleshoot a significant electrical problem that had been plaguing my family for years. …”

Mike F.Yelp · July 2020 · excerpt

Also on Thumbtack (summarized, not quoted)

Emily J., Thumbtack, May 2021: An outlet problem cut power to a room. Dominic came the next morning, found the fault, replaced the outlet and showed her what he had done.

A Thumbtack reviewer: Describes an estimate visit of more than an hour, a fair price, and a panel repair for a problem left behind by a previous owner.

Know the terrain

Electrical work, Bennington County style.

A

Old houses, layered wiring

Old Bennington, North Bennington and the villages are full of 19th- and early 20th-century homes. Knob-and-tube, fuse boxes and ungrounded circuits still turn up, usually mixed with newer work. We sort out which is which before anything new goes in.

B

The ridge loses power first

Route 9 climbs into heavy snow and ice country. Up here an outage means no well pump and no boiler, so a safe generator inlet and interlock is one of the most useful things we install.

C

Water finds the basement

Irene in 2011 and the floods since have taught the region what water does to panels. After a flood, wet electrical equipment gets inspected and usually replaced before it is trusted again.

Service area

From Woodford, down the hill.

We are based in Woodford, up Route 9 from Bennington, and work across southern Bennington County: Bennington and Old Bennington, North Bennington, Shaftsbury, Pownal and Arlington. If you are nearby and don’t see your town, call and ask.

I smell something burning near an outlet or the panel. What should I do?

Turn off the breaker for that circuit, or the main breaker, if you can reach it safely, then call an electrician. If you see smoke or flames, get everyone out and call 911.

Is knob-and-tube wiring dangerous?

It isn’t automatically dangerous, but at its age it is a risk. Knob-and-tube has no ground, its insulation gets brittle, and it was designed to shed heat into open air, not to be buried in modern insulation.

Can I plug my portable generator into a dryer outlet to power the house?

No. That is called backfeeding, and it can send power back into the utility line, where it can kill a lineworker or a neighbor. It can also start a fire in your house.

How do I know if I need a service upgrade?

Common signs are a full panel with no room for new breakers, frequent trips, a 60- or 100-amp service, or plans to add a heat pump, an EV charger, an electric range or a hot tub.

Why do my bathroom and kitchen outlets have test and reset buttons?

Those are GFCI outlets. They cut power in a fraction of a second if current leaks to ground, such as through water or a person, and they are required near sinks, in bathrooms, garages, basements and outdoors.

Who licenses electricians in Vermont?

The Vermont Division of Fire Safety, part of the Department of Public Safety, licenses electricians through its Electrical Licensing program. Licenses include master and journeyman levels.
